Evaluation with Reasons 5
IT directors have recognized the need to develop partnerships that will align with an overall business plan. These partnerships need to be fostered in a way that will synergize the skills of IT employees and business leaders to enable quality business delivery. Companies need to develop partnerships which allow for strategic management to be effective so that it can gain a competitive edge over other firms. New technology platforms such as the cloud are creating the need for such strategic partnerships to be utilized in order to steer the business into successful business delivery. The IT team needs the business leaders as much as the business leaders need them for the common goal of delivery of service efficiently to customers through the cloud going forward. Therefore, the impact of the cloud is making it necessary for better partnerships between IT and business leaders.
The use of cloud-based implementations is enriching the relationship between Information Technology (IT) departments and business leaders as well as creating new opportunities for both parties. The use of public cloud applications is creating a new type of IT and business partnership where business managers are getting the chance to play a role in the development, the selection as well as setting up of public cloud applications (“Perfecting the IT-Business Partnership”, 2016). On the other hand, IT managers are getting administrative supervision rights into long-term business strategies which allow them to manage investment projects which boost simultaneous growth in both human and technical capital. This increased the role of each IT leaders, as well as business leaders, are leading to an increased necessity for efficient collaboration among the leaders. Recent findings have found that business managers prefer working collaboratively with their IT departments over outsourcing IT related duties to outside teams.
For effective implementation of business applications, help from the IT department is needed so as to install them correctly. Additionally, progress on the digital platform is becoming more essential for leaders to get a better understanding of the ever-changing consumer behavior. It is for this reason that top management is finding it more important for them to be keen on how cloud applications are implemented as well as who does the implementation. Hence, there is a necessity to have a joint decision making between the IT and Business management to ensure that projects are implemented according to the company’s business strategy and principles (“Perfecting the IT-Business Partnership,” 2016). The current trend for many organizations that are embracing opportunities in cloud computing is essential for modern businesses. Currently, organizations are subscribing to collaboration of the two groups in designing of governance policies to be applied in cloud computing and joint committees that ensure increased integration and unified standards.
The role of IT department in offering internal advice in matters concerning cloud services and applications is becoming more crucial. For instance, the IT departments and organizations are getting more involved in having the business unit’s expectations met while also ensuring that the business sector is getting the services contracted for (“Cloud impact can be as significant as the advent of computing itself: EIU report”, 2016). With the consumer in mind, smart companies know that creating a remarkable and consistent user experience, reliable flow of data via the cloud and within systems in the premises ultimately enhances productivity which is an essential attribute of any useful business application. It is important to balance the flow of information sector with the physical sector of business, and this is dependent on flawless sharing of information in addition to a standard manner of running a business. For such reasons, IT and business leaders have come up with an agreement to have a combination of private cloud within the premise and third party public cloud hosting services to allow for smooth movement of information and workload between the private and public cloud applications. The steady flow offered by this hybrid of cloud type also gives businesses more flexibility in setting up of data flow mechanism. In fact, it is vital for public cloud applications to have the capability to access data and information from on-premise applications thus highly critical for the flawless flow of data.
The current trend indicates that on-premise systems will increasingly need to integrate at a greater level with cloud applications. Due to this ever-increasing interdependence of on-premise systems and public cloud-based applications, users who rely on the information also expect to have the same user experience in both environments (“Cloud impact can be as big as the advent of computing itself: EIU report,” 2016). For that reason, the design needs to be similar so that the users can feel the sense of using the same application to make it easy for use. This becomes possible when a user gets the feeling that it is the same application as on the premise application whenever they move into public cloud applications. This eliminates the need for a user to train their mind to shift from the conventional system that they are accustomed to, to a different kind of system each time the environment is changed. To keep abreast of latest industrial trends, it is necessary to do the correct business related decisions in conjunction with technical decisions and personnel. This implies a close relationship between the business side and technology side of IT thus a closer relationship between leaders in both sectors. This means that IT department cannot just focus on technical IT matters and support and neglect the business side. Similarly, business leaders cannot focus primarily on business aspects and not pay attention to the IT sector. The implication of this is that collaboration between the two environments is essential for smooth running of the business. The senior IT managers need to focus on the business value of information rather than just maintaining the IT infrastructure.
Business workers who are also tech-savvy contribute substantially conversations with the IT department. Understanding the needs and opinions of the IT staff enables smooth strategic planning and governance towards a common goal. A good business leader recognizes the importance of maintaining a good working relationship with the IT employees so that the interests of both parties are aligned with the common objectives of the business. It is through the use of public cloud services that such a necessity is created where both sides need to work as a team to attain the objectives of the business. Business leaders have to consult the IT input when trying to deploy the services of an external cloud project for it to be successful. It is for such reasons that some business leaders, who, on finding themselves less informed give the IT manager the right to decide on such matters as public cloud vendors providers. This form of decision by the business leader displays good decision making since in spite of the fact that the business managers can pick the application; the IT team will have control of the relevant applications. It thus makes sense for the business leader to allow the IT department to participate in choosing the right applications as they will be responsible for the smooth running of the applications, which involves ensuring security, fixing issues that may arise and configuration of these applications as may be required. For all matters involving cloud system, therefore, the consulting the IT department is thus a smart business decision.
Another effect of cloud is the manner in which businesses deliver their value to consumers. Cloud has made expanded the market to include a global market for IT-related services and users have a greater range of services to choose from. The users of such platforms tend to rely heavily on them minimizing the physical business side. This implies that businesses need to take the matter of user experience in shopping as a serious issue. Likewise, the business managers and system administrators need to collaborate to ensure the platform is as user-friendly as possible to avoid loss of consumers to more competent companies in this area. As businesses embrace cloud services, new business processes come into play in addition to new business models. The change is significant since it does not affect only one aspect of the business but the entire business model might change as well due to the shift (“Drive business transformation through the cloud”, 2016). The change goes beyond mere technological change into the full business transformation. This calls for business leaders and IT managers to work together in seeing the change go through successfully. The cloud is, therefore, making the difference between the IT and business division’s roles to be so minimal that it is getting logical to think of both departments not as separate but as integrated units that must rely on each other for the success of business.
Just as technology in business and cloud computing became a necessity and required knowledge for business leaders, the IT experts will need to widen their knowledge base beyond the IT expertise into business and marketing aspects of the business to integrate with their extensive knowledge in IT (“Drive business transformation through the cloud,” 2016). This is necessary for with the prevailing trend since most business owners will eventually have to be knowledgeable about cloud computing, hence any IT expert who fails to expand their knowledge base risks becoming obsolete in the premises. Bringing together of all the teams will equip companies with the ability to adapt to new challenges as well as come up with new better ideas through collaborative decision making. In conclusion, as consumer motivations and needs keep changing, a real partnership between the IT and Business leaders will be crucial to enable companies to adopt and implement appropriate cloud-based applications that will allow the inevitable changes that will be brought about by the adoption of cloud computing.
